Apply for a fully-funded opportunity to
study abroad at a high school in Georgia, Kazakhstan, Poland, or Romania!
Studying abroad is an exciting journey. International experience is a key to success in today's world. Begun in 2021, FLEX Abroad provides young Americans with a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth that cultivates the next generation of leaders. Talented high school students from across the U.S. are hosted in strategically important countries where they live with a local family and attend a high school. As citizen diplomats, students develop their language, communication, and problem-solving skills and serve as cultural ambassadors, sharing our national culture and traditions.
Deciding on the best program can be challenging. To help you make an informed decision on whether FLEX Abroad is the right fit, we invite you to review the Frequently Asked Questions for Students and Parents. If you would like to read more on what alumni and current participants say about the impact this kind of exchange has had on them, please explore our sister programs: Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Abroad and National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y). The Department of State has conducted study abroad exchange programs for American high school students safely and successfully since the launch of CBYX in 1983, NSLI-Y in 2006, and YES Abroad in 2009.
